I began this painting at the shore, with Schoodic Mountain seen in sunlight across the bay. The seaweed on the rocks, the shadowy pine on the point at the left, the glow of sun on forest above the dark edge of pines - it wasn't until I returned to the studio that I added the cormorants- as a nod to the cormorants with whom I share this sacred place.
